Would you like to learn about the craziest jungle trek I’ve ever done? The Kokoda Trail…. read on 🙂
In May 2016, I decided to embark on one of the most challenging fitness adventures I have ever encountered. The 96-km jungle trek in Papua New Guinea, also known as the Kokoda Trail. It was a trail that would take 8 days to complete where we would need to make about 20 river crossing on our first day with water up to our knees! Crazy, I know!
The trail itself is a constant incline and decline, bridge crossings which are barely stable, and trekking in the hot sun for most days. At the same time, I had come down with severe chafing, gastro, heat exhaustion, and at one point I had collapsed on the trail with no feeling in my legs or feet.
I did this trek solo, with only a porter and a guide. So I spent alot of time talking to the camera as my way of “venting” and expressing myself.
And by the way, I had spent the best part of 3 months physically training for this trail. I was also carrying a 13 kg or so backpack with all my food and gear.
It’s a trail where trekkers do get evacuated from it and some people have even died on it. Insane hey? But, I just wanted to throw myself into it like all my other challenges and I succeeded!
Here are some of the photos from the trek. Check them out.
In most of the photos, you’ll see me holding a camera! I was filming the entire journey which was later produced into a web series for Amazon. You can view it on Amazon (click here) as part of your Prime membership here.
Also, let me know if you decide on doing the Kokoda trail. I can help you with any questions you might have 🙂
